I make contemporary pottery with an emphasis on decoration. The majority is thrown on the wheel but I also hand build and use molds. Most of it is functional as I would like my work to be used, as well as (hopefully) admired. I use tough Stoneware clay which because it is fired to a higher temperature can go in the oven, microwave and dishwasher and be enjoyed without worrying about the washing up!

Currently my designs seem to have been inspired by nature. The allium range came from the alliums which grow outside my studio in May. The cow parsley and seed heads from walks with my family at weekends. I am also interested in using found objects to make interesting textures, particularly lace and crochet pieces found in boot sales, and odds and ends found lying around the house.

Background:

I became a potter almost by accident, having got completely “hooked” in an adult education class back when I was still at University, getting a business degree. After a 15 year marketing career, the arrival of children gave me the opportunity to turn my Monday night evening class into something more than a hobby. I invested in a second hand kiln and I now consider myself very lucky to have a job that I absolutely love and which is compatible with the changing requirements of family life.
